Governance Participation

On a Proof-of-Stake network, "governance" is the process of democratically proposing and voting on changes to the network. These changes might include updates to the network software, edits to the token economics, or even spending decisions for a community treasury. Put simply: governance is one of the most important forms of engagement for a network's community.

Many of the networks we operate on (see the full list, here) offer opportunities for governance, and we strive to be active participants. To help make our governance voting record transparent and accessible, we list our voting history, beginning in August 2022, below.

October 2022

Network Proposal ID Title Our Vote Notes Full Proposal
Stargaze 59 Raise voting deposit requirement in STARS to 50K Yes This was an initiative to discourage governance proposals "without serious intent" by increasing the cost of making proposals. We voted in favor with the intention of reducing spam and raising the quality of governance efforts. Link
Stargaze 58 Ethereum Onboarding Platform Abstain This was a related initiative to Prop 57 (see below). We chose to abstain conscientiously here as well. Link
Stargaze 57 Levana Rekt Dragons Aidrop [sic] Proposal Abstain This was an initiative to incentivize Ethereum NFT communities to migrate to Stargaze. We abstained conscientiously due to a lack of clarity around the team and details behind the proposal. Link
Osmosis 345 Signaling Proposal for STRD/OSMO (#806) Incentivised Pool Abstain Stride is a Liquid Staking solution for the Cosmos. This proposal was an initiative to help bootstrap liquidity for the protocol's native token, STRD, on Osmosis. You can learn more about Stride, and the details of this incentivized pool, in the detailed discussion thread, here. We abstained conscientiously due to bandwidth constraints. Link
Osmosis 344 Regular Incentive adjustment for 2022-10-10 Yes This was, simply, the latest regular, recurring set of adjustments to various pool incentives (see the proposal link for more details). Link
Osmosis 343 Upload Autonomy Network Stops/Limits Wrapper Contract Abstain This was a complementary proposal to Prop 342; see below for more details. Link
Osmosis 342 Upload Autonomy Network Regsitry [sic] Stake Contract Abstain Autonomy is a project that seeks to bring additional trading marketplace features to Osmosis. We voted to to abstain conscientiously here due to being unable to fully understand the project or audit the code during the voting period. Link
Osmosis 341 Signaling Proposal for Skip to Develop the ProtoRev Module Yes This was an initiative to authorize and fund the Skip team to develop an MEV (maximum extractable value) module, some of the revenue from which would be captured on-chain. You can learn more about MEV, and the specific mechanisms for Skip's module, in ther detailed discussion thread, here. We voted in favor of this proposal with the intent to help create a more even playing field for users and validators of all sizes by democratizing access to MEV tools, which, today, are often exploited by larger players across crypto. Link
Regen 19 Regen Ledger v4.1 Upgrade Abstain This was an initiative to move forward with the latest major chain upgrade. Like with other significant updates, we abstained conscientiously here due to being unable to fully audit the code. Link
Osmosis 340 "Regular Incentive adjustment for 2022-10-03" Yes This was, simply, the latest regular, recurring set of adjustments to various pool incentives (see the proposal link for more details). Link
Osmosis 339 Upload Apollo Liquid Staking Contract Abstain This proposal would lay the foundation for Apollo DAO's liquid staking implementation on Osmosis. We abstained conscientiously due to being unable to ourselves fully audit the code for the contract. Link
Osmosis 337 Increase the Osmosis Active Validator Set to 150 Validators (from 135) Yes This was an initiative to, like the name suggests, increase the size of the active validator set. As we track on Nakaflow.io, Osmosis's Nakamoto Coefficient has held steady around 6-7 for some time. We voted in support of this proposal to help create new opportunities for smaller, independent validators and support decentralization on the network. Link

Juno 40 Juno V10 Upgrade Abstain This was an initiative to authorize the next major chain upgrade, V10, an update that—in addition to bug fixes and other smaller changes—would change the rules by which new JUNO tokens are minted. You can learn more about the discourse that led to these changes, here. As with other major network changes, we abstained conscientiously due to being unable to fully audit the code. Link
Osmosis 332 Proposal for Loan Swap of OSMO to Axelar Abstain Axelar (https://axelar.network) is a cross-chain communication protocol. This was an initiative to bootstrap liquidity fo Axelar's native token, AXL, on Osmosis via an OSMO loan that would be repaid in AXL. We abstained conscientiously here due to bandwidth constraints. Link
Osmosis 331 "Regular Incentive adjustment for 2022-09-19" Abstain While we typically vote in favor of these regular adjustments, we abstained conscientiously due to bandwidth constraints in this voting period. Link
Osmosis 330 Proposal for Community Enabled Analytics Program - Flipside Crypto Yes Flipside has been working with Osmosis Labs over the past few months to manage programs that make Osmosis data more accessible to users and developers. We voted to support their ongoing efforts to make Osmosis more transparent. You can learn more in the much more detailed Commonwealth discussion, here. Link
Stargaze 54 Pegasus P2P NFT trading contract Abstain Pegasus is a smart contract that allows for direct Peer-2-Peer NFT transfers on Stargaze. We abstained conscientiously here due to being unable to fully audit the contract code. Link
Stargaze 53 Badges - NFT contract Abstain Badges describes itself as a POAP-like protocol for documenting participation. We abstained conscientiously here, again, due to being unable to fully audit the code during the voting period. Link
Regen 18 Add e-Money EEUR to marketplace allow list Abstain This was an initiative from e-money to add eEUR, a new asset-backed stablecoin, to the Regen Ecocredit Marketplace "allow list." While we've respected the e-Money team's work in the cosmos since our early days in the ecosystem, we chose to abstain conscientiously here due to not being familiar enough with the proposed stablecoin mechanism. You can learn more at the Regen Governance Forum discussion, here. Link
Stargaze 51 Marketplace v1.1 Migration Abstain Like Props 40 and 41 (details below), this was an initiative to upgrade the network's software to a new version. Like with Props 40 and 41, we chose to abstain conscientiously here due to being unable to fully audit the code during the voting period. Link
Stargaze 50 Increase the Stargaze active validator set from 120 to 130 Yes As the title suggests, this was an initiative to increase the number of spots for active Stargaze validators from 120 to 130. We voted in favor here to support decentralization by creating opportunities for more, smaller, independent validators to join in securing the network. Link
Stargaze 49 Imago - Finalizer Contract Abstain Following Props 47 and 48 (details below), this was an initiative to launch the finalizer contract for Imago. See the details for Prop 47 for more. Link
Stargaze 48 Imago - Minter Contract Abstain Following Prop 47 (details below), this was an initiative to launch the minter contract for Imago. See the details for Prop 47 for more. Link
Stargaze 47 Imago - SG721 Contract Abstain This was an initiative to launch the contract code for Imago, a tool that creates generative art using on-chain data. You can learn more at the Stargaze Governance Forum, here. Link
Stargaze 46 Marketplace Contract v1.1 Abstain Like in some other cases of major chain upgrades, we abstained conscientiously here due ot being unable to fully audit the code during the voting period. Link
Agoric 15 Establishing the Economic Committee and electing the initial Economic Committee members Abstain This was an initiative to shape up the initial version of a body responsible for actively monitoring Inter Protocol, a Defi Protocol and associated "stable token" (called "IST") to be run on Agoric. We chose to abstain here for two main reasons: first, we felt generally that a decision this important merits a longer, deeper discussion than what was available during this voting period. Second, we felt like this would be better presented as two separate proposals—one to consider the details of the Economic Committee itself, and another to consider potential members for that Committee. You can see our comments in the discussion on the Agoric Governance Forum, here. Link
Osmosis 328 Regular Incentive adjustment for 2022-09-12 Yes This was the latest in a series of regular, recurring proposals to make adjustments to various pool incentives (see the proposal link for more details). Link
Osmosis 327 Regular Incentive adjustment for 2022-09-05 Yes This was the latest in a series of regular, recurring proposals to make adjustments to various pool incentives (see the proposal link for more details). Link
Osmosis 326 Signalling Proposal for OSMO/BLD pool (#795) incentivised pool Yes This was a proposal to signal support for adding BLD, the native token of the Agoric network, to the set of assets that receive special liquidty incentives on Osmosis. This would be a sign of the strategic importance of Agoric to Osmosis, and the Cosmos. We voted in support of this measure, and are active supporters of Agoric; you can find our validator for the network here. Link
Cosmos Hub 76 Require a minimum 5% commission for all validator nodes Yes This was an initiative to require all validator operators to set a minimum commission of 5%. Historically, the minimum commissiion has been set to 0%. This was set in the spirit of a "free-market" approach, but it meant that larger validators (e.g. those with more capital backing) could attract delegators by charging a lower commission than smaller validators, whose primary income may be from the commissions they charge. While we believe there's further discussion to be had around the best way to set these commissions, we voted in favor of the proposal as a first step towards enforcing greater support the smaller, independent validators that make the Cosmos ecosystem what it is. You can see our full comments on the Cosmos Hub Forum, here. Link
Regen 16 Adding Axelar USDC as a marketplace currency No This was an initiative to introduce the USDC stablecoin via the Osmosis-bridged Axelar. Due to errors discovered in this version of the proposal, it will be resubmitted as a new one. Link
Regen 15 Add Gravity USDC to Regen Marketplace Currency Allow List Abstain This was an initiative to introduce the USDC stablecoin via the Gravity Bridge to Ethereum. While we appreciated the thoughtful discourse around the proposal, we abstained conscientiously due to a number of open questions around bridge security and sustainability. You can see our full comments in the Regen Governance Forum, here. Link
Osmosis 325 Regular Incentive adjustment for 2022-08-29 Yes This was the latest in a series of regular, recurring proposals to make adjustments to various pool incentives (see the proposal link for more details). Link
Osmosis 324 Osmosis Support Lab Funding Round September - November 2022 Yes This was an initiative to approve the next round of funding for the "Osmosis Support Lab," the community-based user-support function for Osmosis. Osmosis 323 Signalling Proposal: Removal of incentives from pool #690 MNTL/OSMO Abstain This was a proposal to remove $OSMO incentives from "Asset Mantle" pool, following accusations of "wash trading." We abstained conscientiously due to being unable to fully explore the details of the accusations. Link

Cosmos Hub 75 Establishing a definition of NoWithVeto Yes This was an initiative to clarify the defintion of the voting option "NoWithVeto," which has historically been confusing for governance participants. We voted to move forward with the proposed definition, but shared more detailed feedback on the Cosmos Hub Forum, here. Link
Agoric 14 Agoric Community Fund Policy Yes This was an initiative to formalize some guidelines for how funding decisions will be approved for the Agoric Community Fund. We voted in support of the increased clarity and utility that these new policies will help to provide. Link
Osmosis 322 [ION DAO] Initialize No Addressing the errors found after Prop 321, this was an intiative to, again, launch ION DAO. We abstained conscientiously due to being unable to fully audit the code. Link
Osmosis 321 [ION DAO] Initialize No This was an initiative to launch ION DAO, following props 316 and 315 below. The code was found to have errors, and the proposal was replaced by Prop 322 above. Link
Osmosis 319 Upload Apollo Liquid Staking Contract Abstain This was an initiative to launch Apollo's new liquid staking solution on Cosmos. You can learn more about Apollo at their blog, here. We abstained conscientiously, having been unable to conduct a full deep dive into Apollo. Link
Osmosis 318 Regular Incentive adjustment for 2022-08-22 Yes This was the latest in a series of regular, recurring proposals to make adjustments to various pool incentives (see the proposal link for more details). Link
Osmosis 316 [ION DAO] Store DAO contract's code Abstain Following Prop 315 below—which dealt with ION DAO's staking contract, allowing for token staking functionality—this was an initiative to install the DAO contract itself. Link
Osmosis 315 [ION DAO] Store staking contract's code Abstain The passage of the earlier Prop 120 signaled support for transferring ION tokens from the Osmosis genesis event to the then-nascent ION DAO, when technically possible. Prop 315 is an attempt, following the previously rejected Prop 305, to recognize that the transfer is now possible, and trigger it via the launch of ION staking contract on Osmosis. Link
Osmosis 310 Regular Incentive adjustment for 2022-08-15 Yes This was the latest in a series of regular, recurring proposals to make adjustments to various pool incentives (see the proposal link for more details). Link
Stargaze 41 Marketplace V1 Migration Abstain We abstained conscientiously due to being unable to audit the full code for the upgrade. Link
Agoric 12 Upgrade to agoric-upgrade-7 Abstain We abstained conscientiously due to being unable to audit the full code for the upgrade. Link
Stargaze 40 Marketplace Contract v1 Abstain This was an initiative to upload the smart contract for Stargaze Marketplace V1—now with a fix to the error uncovered in the review process for Prop 39! We abstained conscientiously due to being unable to audit the full code for the upgrade. Link
Stargaze 39 Marketplace Contract v1 No This was an initiative to upload the smart contract for Stargaze Marketplace V1. As Stargaze is an NFT marketplace app-chain, this was meant to be a big deal; however, an error in the contact code was uncovered, rendering this specific version unsafe to pass. Link
Regen 14 Regen Ledger v4.0 Upgrade Abstain This was an initiative to approve the upgrade to Regen Ledger v4.0. This update introduces a number of new features that unlock eco credit marketplace capabilities, new ledger functionality, and more. You can learn more about the details of the upgrade from the Regen team, here. We supported the direction of the upgrade here and were encouraged by the thorough proposal details; however, we chose Abstain to acknowledge that we were able neither to fully audit the code ourselves, nor to see the results of another code audit. This reflects an evolving and ongoing debate in the community around whose responsibility it is to audit code before launching, and where Validator operators like ourselves fit into the picture. We want to ensure that we’re being as thoughtful and transparent as possible. While that discussion develops across networks, we’ll continue to abstain conscientiously as appropriate. Link
Osmosis 309 Signaling Proposal for GLTO/OSMO (#778) incentivized pool Abstain This was an initiative to include the Gelotto token ($GLTO) in the list of assets that receive $OSMO liquidity incentives. Per the proposal, Gelotto is a "luck-based gaming platform that will initially offer lottery games for various IBC assets." Link
Osmosis 308 Regular Incentive adjustment for 2022-08-08 Yes This was the latest in a series of regular, recurring proposals to make adjustments to various pool incentives (see the proposal link for more details). Link
Osmosis 305 [ION DAO] Store staking contract's code Abstain The passage of the earlier Prop 120 signaled support for transferring ION tokens from the Osmosis genesis event to the then-nascent ION DAO, when technically possible. Prop 305 was an initiative to recognize that the transfer is now possible, and trigger it via the launch of ION staking contract on Osmosis. As you can see in the associated Commowealth discussion, it seems that the community rejected this proposal for rushing—though perhaps not deliberately—the process for reviewing and approving smart contract code on the network. Link
Osmosis 304 Increase Deposit for Proposals to 1600 OSMO Yes This was an initiative to increase the cost for submitting a proposal from 500 $OSMO to 1600 $OSMO, in an effort to disincentivize the submission of spam governance proposals. Link
Osmosis 299 Regular Incentive adjustment for 2022-08-01 Yes This was the latest in a series of regular, recurring proposals to make adjustments to various pool incentives (see the proposal link for more details). While we were aligned with the direction of the changes in this upgrade, we chose to Abstain as we didn't have the capacity within the voting period to fully audit the upgrade code. Link
Osmosis 296 Osmosis v11 Upgrade Abstain This was an initiative to approve the upgrade to Osmosis v11.0, the "Scambuster Upgrade." This update introduces some subtle, but meaningful changes to combat spam/scams on the network. You can learn more from the Osmosis Ministry of Marketing's announcement, here Link
